One Cereal Brand Is Making Miniature Versions Of All Its Best Flavors

General Mills is trying something new with its Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Trix, and Reeses Puffs cereals by making the cereal itself smaller so that consumers "can enjoy more with every spoonful."

When you walk the cereal aisle at the grocery store, there is never any end to the new and unique offerings. Many companies are working hard to innovate the most important meal of the day. And General Mills, who just announced the news of yet another new cereal, is no exception.

Cereal companies have been vying for customers for decades. And that competition is good news for consumers. After all, it means more great cereal flavors and more fun bonus additions.

Children (and adults) have long loved cereal boxes with a surprise toy at the bottom. Beating your sibling to the loot is always a great feeling. But it is not the only draw.

Fun puzzles, riddles, and games on box sides provide endless entertainment to barely awake youngsters before school. Plus, the non-stop cereal competition means tons of new fun shapes and flavors to enjoy. Who doesn’t want to try Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch or Blueberry Toast Crunch?

One of the leaders in cereal innovation is General Mills. It is the parent company of brands such as Cheerios, Chex, Lucky Charms, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. And its development team has expended a lot of energy in recent years to try and get ahead.

The leader in cereal is no stranger to experimentation. And they have no problem pushing the boundaries of what customers may or may not find appealing. A prime example is what they did to Cinnamon Toast Crunch earlier this year.

After testing multiple flavors of Cinnamon Toast Crunch over the years, General Mills decided to spice things up. The company launched a new spicy version called Cinnamon Toast Crunch Fuego. Its goal was to capitalize on the “everything is better with spice” trend in snack foods.

And now, General Mills is switching things up once again. News of a new, smaller cereal is taking the breakfast world by storm. They are known as “minis.”

But before you get excited about a mini-box of cereal, you should know the boxes are standard size. It is the cereal itself that General Mills shrunk down. Reese’s Puffs, Trix, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch will soon be available in tiny round sizes.

According to Food&Wine, the company wants cereal aficionados to “enjoy more … in every spoonful.” And who does not like that idea? Plus, the good news is that the cereal is only changing size and shape, not flavor.

So, you won’t lose out on your favorite Reese’s flavor when you opt for the miniature version. You will be able to snag a box (or more) of minis at select stores nationwide this fall. There will be two box sizes available – mid-size and family size.

The senior marketing communications manager at General Mills explained the company’s reasoning behind the new product. She said, “Sometimes the best new innovation is the smallest one. There’s such a love right now for full-size things that have been shrunk into mini versions, and we realized we could do the same with our cereals.”

“We can’t wait for families to try the cutest new way to experience their favorites one big (little) bite at a time,” she continued. And she alluded to even more fun to come. “The fun doesn’t stop here, so stay tuned for more big surprises in tiny forms to come soon!”
