When one thinks of heading to Target for a shopping spree, an image of a Starbucks coffee, trendy apparel, the latest electronics, home decor, and more will likely pop up. One initially does not put Target into the mindset as the place to go for their groceries.  However, FoodIndustry.com has ranked Target corporation as the number ten top grocer in the United States.

According to The Daily Meal, Target didn’t begin selling groceries until the year 1995 when the first supercenter opened. The Target supercenter may never be your go-to primary store but there are food items that you will want to consider buying there vs. the other superstores they are in competition with. Such as Target’s fresh soups which go perfectly with the current fall season type of weather.

Many may not be too thrilled at the idea of heading over to the “Expect More. Pay Less” supercenter for fresh soup. Especially, if you already have a favorite out-of-pocket restaurant for your soup fix. However, if you are truly a fan of the soup, you will want to give Target a try.

If you like the menu items from Panera, the fresh Target deli soups, like Good & Gather have the same Panera brand-esque soup options. The Target fresh soups have the same ingredients and names as the ones you can purchase at Panera. Target has online soup choices such as cream of chicken, broccoli cheddar, and wild rice. Yummy!

The one major difference you will experience when purchasing your fresh deli soup at Target vs. Panera is the price difference. Of course, the prices will vary from location to location but you can count on still paying less at your nearest Target supercenter for the same ingredients, type, and in larger container sizes than Panera offers for a higher price.

Target supercenters are among a list of a few grocery stores that actually sell deli-fresh soups. There are many grocery stores that do not want to deal with the hassle of food preparation, storage, safety guidelines, and health standards. These grocery stores would prefer your soup was purchased in a can located in aisle 6.

Other than the Good & Gather soups now available at your local Target supercenter, a trip to the nearest Panera, you will have to choose between Aldi’s Fit & Active brand, Chef’s Cupboard, and Campbells. These name brands come packaged in cans or plastic containers, so typically, refrigeration is not necessary. The Target deli-fresh soups require being stored in the refrigerator until consumption. That is if you can make it home prior to eating it all.

So food for thought, or is it soup for the soul? Even if you do not do all of your major food shopping at Target, you will want to reconsider where you grab your next bowl of soup. Not only will you enjoy the hot delicious freshness, but save a few dollars while you do!
