After eating Walmart cookies that tasted like metal, Madison Carlstrom began to wonder why in the world the cookies tasted like that. The taste then prompted her to warm the cookie up in the microwave which then caused sparks, the same way metal sparks when placed in the microwave and heated. Carlstrom has gone viral on TikTok with a video of the incident and is asking Walmart for an explanation.

In a now-viral TikTok video with well over three million views, Walmart cookies are sparking debate, both literally and figuratively. The video displays a seemingly normal cookie being tossed into the microwave that has been set for a mere three seconds. Almost immediately, the cookie begins to spark which causes the user to promptly open the microwave door.

The Walmart cookies are actually from a Great Value brand cookie dough that Carlstrom baked. The user is puzzled as to why cookies are not even safe! Walmart and Great Value have some serious explaining to do.

In the viral TikTok video posted on September 29th, Carlstrom captions it with a plea asking Walmart to explain why the Walmart cookies are doing this. She further goes on the explain that her microwave works perfectly fine and does not do this with other foods. In the comment section of the video, there are numerous responses of worry, some posting similar experiences with Walmart Great Value brand and even some offering explanations as to why the spark was caused.

Apparently, the Walmart cookies are not the only food items to cause sparks while being heated in the microwave. Some commenters stated in the comment section that Walmart brand popcorn, chicken nuggets, and even celery have caused a spark like the one shown in the video. This sparks the question of what exactly is happening with Walmart brand food, are they putting metal in it?

One commenter noted that her husband works at a factory where they process sugar and mentioned that there have been times when metals somehow make their way into sugar batches. This sometimes goes undetected by safety checks and could explain the spark from the Walmart cookie. However, this is completely unacceptable and people should not have to worry about metal in their food.

Canadian Food Inspection has suggested that sometimes sparks, similar to the one from the Walmart cookies, happen when there are certain minerals, such as iron, present in foods. The presence of these certain minerals can cause the reaction of a spark when heated. In most cases, the food is still edible but may not taste the best.

The United States has a long history of including harmful additives in its food that are often banned from human consumption in other countries. Even some foods that have been labeled as healthy have turned out to be not so healthy. With the spark of this Walmart cookie, its use may be time to hold the FDA accountable and demand the quality of food available in America be regulated the same way it is in other countries.
