Chick-Fil-A is opening up a space, cleverly titled "The Brake Room," meant to serve as a spot for delivery workers in New York City to relax and recharge.

Fast food chain restaurant Chick-fil-A is thinking about their employees amid an even busier post-pandemic schedule. Chick-fil-A has built a break room for their employees in New York that offers both a restroom and libations for employees out for deliveries.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, fast-food restaurants have seen a rise in customers and orders as people were stuck at home. Post-pandemic, these orders are still rising as the cost of living is constantly increasing; many people have stopped eating in restaurants and turned to fast food restaurants as their treat.

For three months, starting on February 16, the new break room will be located in the east of New York for employees delivering food for food delivery apps such as UberEats. This is especially helpful for the 65,000 delivery employees in New York, as it can be challenging to find a bathroom in the city. It will follow the same schedule as the Chick-fil-A restaurants and be open from 11 am to 7 pm every day except for Sundays.

“The Brake Room” will be decorated like any communal business area. It will contain various seating, charging docks for phones, and bike locks. They have opened this location for their delivery employees to show them that they are a valued member of the Chick-fil-A family.

Delivery workers have one of the most demanding jobs within Chick-fil-A as they primarily have to use bicycles as it is the quickest way to get around New York City. They are subjected to extreme weather, including snow, rain, and high temperatures. Chick-fil-A have also noted that most of their deliveries last year were during the winter months and cold weather, so they hope that The Brake Room will become an area where they can reset during these busy periods.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, delivery was one of the only options for many food businesses, both fast food restaurants and dining restaurants. It has now become an integral part of post-pandemic life for all food establishments. For Chick-fil-A, all employees are treated the same to ensure the protection of their brand and maintain the excellent business standards they are known for. They are one of the first people to meet customers, and it is vital that they feel they are a part of the business.

It is a part of the fast food industry that is growing rapidly, with many restaurants catering to the many app delivery services available to customers.

New York City has also said they will install different areas around the city to help delivery workers rest throughout their long shifts. They will turn vacant spaces throughout the city into hubs, just like Chick-fill-A has done. Areas like shopfronts and newsstands will be used in this new initiative. Most people who work for fast food restaurants already have a break room available to use when they are on their break, while delivery workers do not have such facilities.

It is an excellent idea for break rooms such as the one Chick-fil-A has installed to be available to delivery workers. They are hard-working people and deserve to have an area available to take a break in.
