Automotive manufacturer Volkswagen has become the bearer of bad news. They have recalled 143,000 of its Atlas SUVs across America. This mass Volkswagen recall of vehicles is because the passenger airbag has a faulty sensor. The fault in question is able to turn the airbag system off, which is a massive safety risk to the passengers in their cars.

The Volkswagen recall advises everyone who has bought this vehicle to keep the vehicle’s front passenger side free until this issue has been resolved. The airbag fault is not affecting every Atlas SUV, but every vehicle needs to be checked to ensure the fault is not present, and if it is, it is rectified.

Health and safety in vehicles are very prevalent during design, manufacturing, and the buying process. Automotive companies take their safety rating very seriously, as a decreasing safety rating may lead to a loss of loyal customers and reduced business.

New cars have sensors in their seats to determine if anyone is sitting there. If they detect a small child, which is a considerably lighter weight than an adult, the airbag system is turned off as when airbags are inflated; they can seriously injure little children.

But the faulty sensors in some of the Volkswagen Atlas SUVs are showing that there is a system issue. This issue is deactivating the airbag system and leaving the occupant of the car without protection if it is involved in an accident.

The root cause of the issue still has not been uncovered by Volkswagen, but they are determined to figure out what is causing this issue that has forced them into such a massive Volkswagen recall. While they cannot uncover the root cause, investigators have determined that the fault is occurring in Atlas SUVs manufactured in two specific periods.

The vehicles with questionable airbag systems are all Atlas Models from 2018 to 2012 and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs from 2020. At the moment, Volkswagen is unaware of any injuries that have occurred from this fault, and they are hoping it will stay that way.

So if you own a Volkswagen Atlas, what do you need to look out for in case your airbag system has a faulty sensor and is a part of the Volkswagen recall? A warning light will turn on inside the SUV to alert you that there is a problem with the airbag system.

Unfortunately, Volkswagen has not determined the route forward with this problem, but when a repair plan is put in place, any vehicles with the fault will be fixed free of charge. Volkswagen itself has vocalized this. The automotive manufacturers will notify any owner of an Atlas SUV that needs to be checked out through a letter in the mail. Anyone that is concerned can also call auto safety customer service at 1-888-327-4236.

The Volkswagen Atlas is a seven-seater SUV that was manufactured specifically for the American automotive market. They are also built in the US in Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tennessee, manufacturing factory. Hopefully, no one has been hurt through this vehicle Volkswagen recall, and everything will be quickly resolved.
