Cheese is a beloved ingredient people can’t seem to get enough of. Whether it’s in a melty, hot fondue, or served in bit-sized slices for a charcuterie board, there are infinite ways to eat this salty, creamy food. One particularly unexpected way to eat cheese has taken the internet by storm. Velveeta, a longstanding American cheese company, just introduced their Velveeta martini to the surprise, and slight disgust, of fans nationwide.

The Velveeta martini is appropriately named the Veltini, inspired by the look and taste of the company’s main dairy product. The drink serves cheese in three different ways; first, the martini is filled with cheese-infused vodka. Then, the olives, usually stuffed with pimento, are replaced with Velveeta. The final touch is adding the company’s macaroni shells in between the olives on the signature martini pick. For the garnish, a couple of drips of soft Velveeta cheese are spread on the outer rim. Take a look at the decidedly odd concoction below.

If you are intrigued by this salty, creamy concoction, you won’t be able to pick one up at a supermarket or your local bar. Velveeta martinis will only be available at BLT Restaurant Group’s steakhouses. Both companies partnered to create this cheesy drink, so they aptly tested them out at designated chains for a limited time. The cocktail will be offered only between 5 and 8 pm, which both companies call “golden hour.” Only a few cities will have the drink available, which include Washington D.C., Charlotte, North Carolina, and New York City.

What happens if you don’t live in the designated cities but want to try the Velveeta martini out yourself? Fortunately, you’re in luck. Velveeta will be selling martini kits through the food online marketplace Goldbelly for $50 a piece. Each kit will come with the proper ingredients to make this cheesy alcoholic beverage in the comfort of your own kitchen. The box will come with an olive jar, a carton of Velveeta jumbo shells and cheese, two martini glasses, and their cheese sauce that you’ll need to shake with vodka. If that’s not enough, each package will come with special Velveeta merch to accentuate the importance of your cocktail-making event.

Once Twitter got ahold of the Velveeta martini, the social media platform couldn’t make heads or tales of it. Some people reacted with immediate incredulity, unable to understand why Velveeta would produce a cheesy vodka beverage. One person responded that the drink would only be worse if it were also “radioactive.” All the reactions, so far, have been from seeing the image of the Veltini in Velveeta’s press release. Maybe once people order a Velveeta martini kit and taste the drink themselves, they’ll sing a different tune.

Scott Cronin, senior vice president at BLT Restaurant Group, wants to make sure Velveeta fans know that the drink isn’t an abomination. In a statement about the Velveeta martini, he said the beverage is a “delicious, over-the-top cocktail.” He described the laborious process of making a tasty martini while ensuring the quintessential cheese flavor was present. Only time will tell if the cocktail is as delicious as these two companies describe.
