One fact that will always remain true in business is that a company needs to continue to grow and be looking for new ways to engage its consumers or else it will eventually cease being able to do business. If there is one way that is certain to engage the consumers of your product and that is to give away large sums of money to them. TikTok has announced that the short-form video app is launching a series of trivia contests that will give their users a chance to take home a piece of the $500,000 prize pool.

The trivia contests will take place between February 22nd through February 26th on the @TikTok account and contestants will have to be over the age of 18 and live in the United States in order to be eligible for the cash prizes. According to the Verge, “Categories include lifestyle, beauty, sports, and music, according to TikTok, along with John Wick questions (the event is sponsored by Lionsgate and its upcoming film John Wick: Chapter 4),” and will be in a multiple-choice format. You might be wondering why an app that is dedicated to featuring pre-recorded videos would be hosting live-streamed trivia contests.

TikTok has been testing different ways to generate engagement from its users about their live streaming capabilities on its platform. In the past, they have encouraged businesses and content creatures to go live in an effort to both drive sales and raise awareness about a business’s brand. In turn, TikTok consumers become more aware of the live streaming application within the TikTok app.

To keep the live stream as entertaining as possible TikTok has enlisted James Henry to host the event.  James Henry is a popular TikTok content creator whose skits regularly have gone viral and they will be relying on him to interact with both contestants and viewers to keep engagement and entertainment at peak levels. If you remember in the recent past that this concept was attempted by HQ, but unfortunately the concept did not take off and the idea failed to produce the viewership or revenue that the company was looking to achieve.

TikTok has recently been trying to upgrade their live streaming to have more advanced settings like the ability to restrict the streams for people under the age of 18 so that the content could be more adult-centric entertainment. Another push they are making in the US is for live-stream shopping which has had a lot of success in China and other parts of Asia.

TikTok is certainly not resting on the success they have had all over the world as they test and attempt different ways of keeping its platform fresh for its users.  With the advent of short-form videos the human attention span is in serious decline. That means even for the company that is directly responsible for feeding into that attention span decline if they don’t keep things interesting on its platform users will get bored quickly and move on to the next attention-grabbing application.
