They first started with “science-based targets” that leaned on emissions reductions. The first goal with this was to ensure that Target’s emissions would contribute to no more than 1.5 degrees of warming. They also have renewable energy efforts that are in place where Target will be purchasing over 50% of their electricity from renewable sources.
Hence, the Target Car Seat Trade-In program. Now, while it won’t contribute to Target’s renewable energy efforts, it does affect turning old products into new ones and cutting back heavily on waste. You can’t go wrong with that.

The Target Car seat Trade-In event has been working for over six years now. It began in April 2016 and, since that time, has seen nearly 1.8 million car seats returned for recycling. This equates to almost 30 million pounds.
The latest Target Car Seat Trade-In event took place from September 11, 2022 through September 24, 2022, a timeframe that covers two weeks. Typically, the event takes place in the Spring and late Summertime, giving families plenty of time to prepare. There are plenty of different types of car seats, so what type qualifies for the event?
Target says they will accept all types of car seats for their Target Car Seat Trade-In event. These include infant car seats, convertible car seats, car seat bases, and harness or booster car seats. They will also accept car seats that have been damaged or have expired.
For the most part, all Target stores across the country participate in the Target Car Seat Trade-In event. The exception is some select small format stores, but other than that, all stores are included. While the trade-in only covers car seats, the rewards of said trade-ins cover a whole lot more.
