A Man Got Legally Married To A Can of Mtn Dew

Thomas Rank married a Mtn Dew can in a promotional contest by PepsiCo. Rank won a couple nights in a Las Vegas suite and some cash. Not bad for just saying, "I do."

“I now pronounce your man and beverage….” Aw! So sweet! Literally. A man was able to (not legally) marry a can of Mtn Dew in Las Vegas.

What did the ring look like? Well, the can already had her very own pop top. The contest, sponsored by PepsiCo flew one lucky dude to Vegas to party with $1,000 in a posh suite on the Vegas strip.

Call it a Mtn Dew marriage made in marketing heaven. According to Food & Wine, Thomas Rank, a guy who apparently will do anything to win something, walked into a small chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada, and married a can of hard Mtn Dew. His ring was of course a pop top.

After the officiant said, I now pronounce you “man and can” Rank drank the tall boy and hopefully didn’t recycle his new wife. He did, however, receive a two-night, three-day stay in a lovely Vegas suite and $1000 to make it rain. We’re sure the can didn’t care. A Mtn Dew Marriage is a strong one.

What will Valentine’s Day be like, we wonder? How will they spend their anniversary? And that wedding night must’ve been wild. In all seriousness, brands do stunts like this to get advertising. Instead of spending millions on advertising campaigns (which Mtn Dew will more than likely do anyway), it can get traction out of stunts and stories much like this Mtn Dew marriage.

So, now you know that PepsiCo created a hard Mtn Dew drink. You too can do the Dew. (sorry) But it worked, now we all know and nary an advertising budget was touched. This Mtn Dew marriage was one big advertising ploy and hopefully, the new alcoholic drink won’t be as hard to find as the brand’s Mtn Dew Purple Thunder

This Mtn Dew marriage is definitely weird, but not the oddest way people are getting married. Couples are now choosing to get hitched in a submarine, married as Prince Eric and The Little Mermaid, and even adding some magic to the day with Harry Potter-themed parties. Hey, it’s your day, you dew you.

This boozy soda is the newest trend to join other drinks like Truly and Mike’s Hard Lemonade. The sweet concoction in a can is 5% ABV and is beloved by Millennials and Gen X alike. PepsiCo decided to hold the Mtn Dew marriage contest because it was so loved. In a marketing brainstorming someone said, “well, if you love Mtn Dew so much, why don’t you marry it?” and the rest is history.

Well, we wish the cute couple the best of luck in the future. May their days be bright and their nights be passionate. Because with a Mtn dew marriage behind you, you just never know what life has in store. Carbonation? Inebriation? Heck, it’s definitely probably both.

Hard Mtn Dew comes in zero sugar and a couple of different flavors. So, Rank, the happy husband can sample even more. Variety is the spice of life after all. With his Mtn Dew marriage behind him, may the lucky winner remain thirsty for all that life has to offer him.
