Once all the holiday treats are gone, Nabisco and its Chips Ahoy! brand plan to let you continue to satisfy your sweet tooth with an all-new offering for 2023. The cookie company has merged two favorite flavors into one soft creation to celebrate its upcoming 60th birthday. Chewy Confetti Cake Cookies are a colorful, chocolate chip addition to the Chips Ahoy! lineup and will be available in family-size packages for about $4.99 at supermarkets nationwide in January.

Nabisco is hoping that the new Chips Ahoy! flavor will draw younger consumers to its brand. Food&Wine shared a statement from Natalie Gadbois, the company’s senior brand manager. “Our chewy cookies introduce new tastes, flavors, and sensory experiences that we know Gen-Z looks for while still keeping the same, familiar Chips Ahoy! cookie quality fans of all ages have come to know and love.”

Gadbois went on to explain that Chewy Confetti Cake Cookies have the familiar soft Chips Ahoy! cookie base but mix white chocolate chips into the classic semisweet chocolate bits. Because this new flavor was designed for the cookie’s birthday celebration, every chewy bite includes a generous scattering of rainbow sprinkles. Additionally, the classic Chips Ahoy! taste profile is accentuated with a hint of confetti birthday cake flavor.

What exactly is birthday cake flavor? After all, a birthday cake can be any number of flavor combinations. Foodiosity addressed this question and it turns out that the specific taste we call “birthday cake” is surrounded by childhood nostalgia.

Overall, birthday cake is a strong vanilla flavor that mimics vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. It almost always includes sprinkles, which have no real flavor of their own. Most consider this flavor the same as the funfetti (fun+confetti) cakes many of us enjoyed as children, and it merges well with chewy Chips Ahoy! cookie dough.

In 1989, Pillsbury released a cake mix with their funfetti sprinkles mixed in. The colorful cakes became a birthday favorite, and that specific buttery vanilla taste is now a nostalgic one for many American adults. It’s such a popular flavor that it seems available everywhere now, in everything from donuts to ice cream to scented candles.

“We all know that Chips Ahoy! is here for the happy. Now, for its 60th birthday, it’s here for the party,” said Gadbois. “With colorful rainbow sprinkles mixed in with irresistible confetti cake flavor, Chips Ahoy! Chewy Confetti Cake Flavored Cookies taste great on their own or can be paired with ice cream for one deliciously happy treat.”

Use two Chewy Confetti Cake Cookies—or any Chips Ahoy! flavor—to make an easy ice cream sandwich. Simply place a slightly softened scoop of your favorite ice cream on the back side of a Chips Ahoy! cookie and gently press another cookie on top to make a sandwich. Either eat immediately or wrap in plastic wrap and freeze.

SnackWorks is the official website of the Chips Ahoy! cookie brand. It includes many recipes that use the famous chocolate chippers, such as Chips Ahoy! Marshmallow Brownies. Or try the Chips Ahoy! Chocolate-Fruit dessert pizza that has a cookie crust topped with a chocolate hazelnut cream cheese filling and artfully arranged fresh fruit.

Chips Ahoy! was first introduced in 1963 and it remains one of the best-selling ready-made cookies in America. It launched with the basic chocolate chip cookie we still love today, but now offers multiple flavor combinations, such as red velvet, s’mores, and Reese’s peanut butter cup. The cookies also come in several different shapes and textures, including chewy, mini, chunky, and extra-crispy thins.
