See The Hilarious 17-Foot Cheeto Finger Statue Now On Display In A Small Town
The 17-foot Cheeto statue is on display in a small town in Alberta, Canada.
Cheeto lovers, grab your bag of orange goodness and get ready to celebrate good news. A 17-foot-high statue now commemorates the orange dust left behind by your beloved snack. That’s right – there is a Cheeto statue of a giant set of fingertips sporting Cheeto dust holding a single Cheeto Puff.
The phenomenal Cheeto statue got commissioned by PepsiCo Canada. They recently placed it in a small town called Cheadle. And according to some news reports, it is already starting to receive hoards of visitors.
In case you have never heard of Cheadle, Canada, you are not alone. The tiny town is home to only about 100 people. It is in south-central Alberta, only about 30 miles from Calgary.
With so many major cities that boast lovely, large squares and ample visitors, why did PepsiCo choose to place the Cheeto statue in Cheadle? The answer may surprise you. And it’s all in a name.
It turns out that the orange dust stuck to your fingers when you eat Cheetos has an official brand name. And it is called Cheetle. Its origin stems back to the 1980s when a comedian named Rich Hall coined the term “cheedle.”
Eventually, the Cheetos brand adopted that term. And the name Cheetle has even made its way into the dictionary! Well, the Urban Dictionary, that is.
The official definition is “the orange, powdery residue left on your fingers after eating Cheetos.” The company erected the Cheeto statue to commemorate that term. And, of course, to celebrate orange-covered fingertips everywhere.
Lisa Allie is the Senior Marketing Director for PepsiCo Foods Canada. In a statement she issued, Allie said “Cheetos fans have always known that the delicious, cheesy dust on their fingertips is an unmistakably delicious part of the Cheetos experience, but now it officially has a name: Cheetle. We’re excited to be celebrating Cheetle and Canadians’ cheesy, Cheetle-dusted fingertips on such a grand scale and in such a uniquely mischievous way.”
So, how does the tiny town feel about the giant orange statue? The Cheadle Community Club President, James Gosteli, said, “Cheadle is proud to be home to the Cheetle Hand Statue…While our residents will be the first to see the unique monument, we can’t wait for the rest of Canada to see it for themselves!”
The bad news is that the Cheeto statue is only on display for a short time. PepsiCo Canada plans to remove it after Friday, November 4. So if you live in the area or just love road trips, pop by! You will find it at 400 Railway Avenue.
PepsiCo Canada is encouraging visitors to take plenty of photos of the giant Cheeto statue. They even created a few special hashtags to mark the occasion. So, grab your camera snap some shots, tag the Instagram handle @cheetoscanada, and sprinkle in the hashtags #ItsaCheetosThing and #CheetleinCheadle.
