Google Bard

Google is one of the world’s leading technology companies that has been at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI). AI is very important to Google’s business, from its search engine to self-driving cars. Google now has released its chatbot, Bard, and its results are promising.

First thing you should know about Bard is that it’s a Google experiment based on AI technology. Google describes Bard as a creative and helpful collaborator that can improve imagination, productivity, and help bring ideas to life.  It is capable of writing a pros and cons list, invitations, and simplifying complex topics.

Bard comes after Google’s previous AI named, Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) which underwent tons of testing. LaMDA is trained on having open-ended conversations that could lead to something like a debate. Now, LaMDA powers Bard.

AP News tested Bard and described it as forthcoming when it comes to its unreliability. AP News said that Bard would warn them of the problems it could unleash and emphasize its belief that it will blossom into something good. It seems that although Bard has a lot to offer, the good thing is that it is honest when it does not know something for a fact.

Safety and risks have been one of Google’s biggest concerns. In 2018, Google established an AI principles document, outlining its pledge to responsible and ethical AI development which it’s taking seriously with Bard. Google has said that its highest priority is to minimize the risks like bias and is also investing in ways to ensure LaMDA’s responses are correct.

Google has invested in AI for years. In 2011, the company launched Google Brain, a research project that used deep learning to create neural networks capable of processing large amounts of data. Google Brain’s work has led to major breakthroughs in machine learning and natural language processing, such as Google Translate, reports Nature.com.

AI was also a driver of Google’s work in self-driving cars. Their Waymo division has been developing autonomous vehicles that can navigate roads without the need of a human. Waymo believes with the use of their Lidar technology, their vehicles are on track to revolutionize the transportation industry.

With Bard, it seems like Google is betting big on the future of AI. The company sees AI as the next step in innovation and growth. With its research divisions, partnerships with academic institutions, and massive data sets, Google is no doubt well-positioned to continue leading the way.

The future impact of AI on society is a topic of growing concern. With their AI Principles, they advocate for AI to be developed in a way that wholly benefits society, rather than just a select few groups or people. Regardless, they believe that benefits of this technology “substantially exceed” any risks or drawbacks that can come as a result of it.

Google is one of the most important players in the AI space and has always had a massive impact on the future of technology. From search and self-driving cars to general artificial intelligence that seems to have all the answers, AI will likely transform the way we live and work. Google and their new AI experiment, Bard, seem committed to lead the way.
