Some people are die-hard proponents of clearance shopping, while others discovered the art after inflation started rising. But no matter which camp you fall into, the good news is that you can score screaming deals at stores like Walmart. You just have to know where to look.

Thankfully, we have the internet to come to our rescue. And, no, that doesn’t mean you should hit up Google looking for deals. Instead, open up your TikTok app.

That’s right. The app getting dragged through the proverbial news mud almost daily may help you save some money. While to be fair, it is users on the app, not the social media giant itself.

TikTok is known for its catchy, short videos that manage to suck viewers in, often for hours on end. The premise is highly successful. YouTube and Instagram have tried to snag a corner of the low-attention span market.

And while many of the videos are political commentary or cute animals (though who doesn’t love those), there is some highly useful information. You can even find tutorials teaching you how to start clearance shopping. One account in particular, @superunsexy, loves showing off his great finds.

The owner of the account’s real name is Sean. And according to Apartment Therapy, he “frequently shares shopping tips with followers on social media, recently divulging the little-known way shoppers can get clearance deals at Target and Walmart at their lowest sale prices.” But the good news is that he offers suggestions to help you think outside the yellow sticker box.

You may already know that stores like Walmart often put clearance items on end cap displays or in designated corners. But apparently, there is even more to the clearance shopping story. Sean discovered “that many times, deeply discounted clearance goodies are stored high up on top shelves, making it inconvenient for buyers to grab them.

It is not necessarily a problem for those blessed with the gift of height. But the rest of us may opt to walk away rather than attempt to read far-off labels. However, Sean has solid advice that will help.

If you are shopping at Walmart, grab one of the in-store scanners. Point it up at the item from where you stand to discover the selling price. Our intrepid TikToker found a stand-mixer marked down to $20 with this exact method.

Also, poke around the shelves at Walmart if you have a few extra minutes to spare. Often someone (shopper or employee) will place an item down and forget about it. And another good place to check when clearance shopping is lower shelves.

Sean also offers the handy tip that sometimes items that appear the same actually have different barcodes. Go ahead and scan multiple of the same item. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised.

Clearance shopping is like the newer version of coupon clipping. With a little extra time and effort, you can save big bucks. And if you are a TikTok fan, keep an eye out for more videos that will help save you some money.
