If you’re driving to a McDonald’s, one of the first menu items you’ll notice is the Chicken McNuggets. These nuggets are a well-known entree in every McDonald’s nationwide. A few years back, the iconic Chicken McNuggets got a seasoned upgrade with the restaurant chain’s Spicy McNuggets. The upgrade was such a unanimous triumph that McDonald’s lovers petitioned for their return when the Spicy McNuggets disappeared. Today, the chain announced that these limited-edition nuggets would make a return but only in select stores.

Only half of McDonald’s restaurants across the United States will have the Spicy McNuggets. The nuggets will only be available for a limited time, but the burger chain hasn’t indicated how long. According to a statement from McDonald’s, 6,900 different locations will be participating in the returning menu item.

Spicy McNuggets were a recent installation on McDonald’s menus due to the success of competitor Wendy’s similar entree. Wendy’s nuggets were also improved with a spicy kick and garnered acclaim throughout their stores. This pushed McDonald’s to release their own spicy iteration in 2020, the first change to the Chicken McNuggets recipe since 1983. Because the Chicken McNuggets had remained the same since their initial drop, fans were immediately ecstatic. The overall success of the Spicy McNuggets incentivized the restaurant chain to bring them back one more time.

McDonald’s has been utilizing the intermittent menu-item drop for quite a while. One of the first restaurants to do so, the limited-time appearances of the McRib have been a company staple and a monetary victory. The successfulness of these campaigns has pushed McDonald’s to initiate other menu drops, like the recent Spicy McNuggets. The sporadic inclusion of food items keeps stores like McDonald’s continuously relevant, and the tactic has been picked up by numerous restaurant chains nationwide.

Similar to the return of Spicy McNuggets, Taco Bell had a recent menu item appear again at various locations. Taco Bell‘s Nacho Fries made a surprising return to many customers’ excitement at the beginning of March. Unfortunately for the chain, Taco Bell immediately had trouble keeping up with customer demand and having enough fries to go around. Many reported online that numerous stores in their areas did not have Nacho Fries due to a manufacturing shortage. Taco Bell representatives have been insistent that this is no longer an issue and that the limited-release Nacho Fries will still be available until April 13.

If Nacho Fries are your thing, Spicy McNuggets are also a “dippable” finger food with that mouthwatering, spicy kick. The nuggets are topped off with a chili and cayenne coating, giving them that signature heat. Though the nuggets are returning, the menu item will not include their previously accompanied Mighty Hot Sauce. But you’ll still be able to receive one of McDonald’s other signature sauces for optimal dipping.

McDonald’s stays relevant by updating its menu and keeping its loyal customers on their toes. With the reintroduction of Spicy McNuggets, people are flooding stores nationwide to try and get their hands on this spicy treat. Don’t hesitate to purchase the Spicy McNuggets since they’ll only be available in stores for a limited time.
