As General Motors takes time to better understand the direction and possible changes to the social media platform, Twitter, the company has halted advertising on the platform. The companies have already begun talking with one another since Elon Musk has taken over the social media platform and will continue to talk to understand all of the changes that are taking place. Although the company has stopped advertising on Twitter, for the time being, the company will still use the platform to interact and engage with customers and potential customers.

General Motors was previously paying to advertise on Twitter. Since the new ownership deal has gone through, General Motors has halted paid advertising. General Motors claims that this is just a standard business practice when a large company or platform undergoes new ownership.

The automotive company, General Motors, is simply taking time to evaluate and see where the direction of the platform of the social media platform will go now that it is under new ownership. Other companies in the automotive industry are following suit and proceeding with caution while others are simply unbothered and proceeding as normal with the use of the platform.

While General Motors is waiting to see for sure the direction that Twitter will take, Elon Musk has made it clear that the reason for the takeover was to create a platform for more free speech.

Elon Musk is the founder and leader of Tesla, an electric car company. He is not just a sit-back, in-the-shadows type of owner of the company, he is heavily involved in all aspects of Tesla. As one could guess, General Motors and Tesla are rivals in the automotive industry.

General Motors is an American automotive company that has been around since September 1908. Since its humble beginnings in Flint, Michigan over 114 years ago, General Motors has been a leader in the automotive industry and is currently taking on the production of electric cars. It is only natural that the company would hesitate to continue advertising on a platform owned by a rival in the automotive industry.

Elon Musk is widely known for bold opinions and does have a bit of controversy surrounding himself and the recent deal he made with Twitter, providing even further ground for General Motors to stand on for why advertising on the platform has halted. Elon Musk first offered a whopping $44 million for the social media platform that he now owns. The initial offer was unsolicited and came because he said that he wanted to turn Twitter into a private company that allowed users more freedom to speak openly on the platform.

One of the promises that Elon Musk made regarding his takeover of Twitter was to restore the account of Donald Trump, which was previously banned. General Motors is not the only big name to question the new direction that the platform will go. The CEO of Fiskers has deleted his Twitter account altogether since Elon Must closed on his ownership deal and since taken over.

As changes come and Elon Musk makes the platform his own, companies like General Motors will continue to monitor and evaluate the process as it happens. The reason for the new owner is because of freedom. Companies and individuals are free to choose if and with who they will proceed with using Twitter.
