The electric vehicle market turned a corner in 2022 and is set to go from strength to strength in 2023. EVs are the future of the automotive industry, with many global automotive manufacturers investing heavily in the technology. So what has been the stand-out performer within the electric vehicle market? The Pickup truck. The variety of well-made electric pickup trucks would cause even the most cautious buyer to consider changing to an electric vehicle.

Along with the rise of electric vehicles, the gas-powered pickup truck is still a best seller throughout the automotive market due to its various attributes, such as haulage, that cars just don’t have. Within the world of pickup trucks, there is something for everyone, from smaller easier-to-drive models to full-size haulers. The automotive market is full of pickup trucks, and no one is complaining.

So what is coming in 2023? With the Ford F-150 lightning release and other major successes, it will take a lot of work to compete with such quality, robust vehicles.

Ford is releasing a new pickup truck called the Ford Ranger (or rather, bringing back an old favorite). It is a midsize pickup that has been upgraded and redesigned to include a high-performance Raptor model with a V6 engine with 392 horsepower. It is designed for off-road driving and will be the perfect gas-powered partner for the F-150 Lightning.

General Motors has two new pickup trucks coming in 2023, one from Chevrolet and another from GMC. The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are more upscale in pricing than the Ford Ranger, with their top models starting a $60,000. Both trucks come with high-performance models that contain a four-cylinder engine that reveals 237-310 horsepower and 430 foot-pounds of torque.

Along with new gas-powered pickups, Chevrolet and GMC have also released an electric alternative. The GMC Sierra electric pickup and Chevrolet Silverado are set to rival the Ford F-150 Lightning as they have an incredibly long-distance driving range of 400 miles and a haulage capacity of up to 10,000 pounds.

There is a vast price difference between these models, with the Silverado starting their prices at $41,000 while the Sierra is more upmarket at $100,000. They share the same electric vehicle battery technology but differ in body type, which is why the price is so different. The Sierra has a more classic look, while the Silverado chose a more futuristic profile.

The last big release for pickup trucks in 2023 is, of course, the Tesla Cybertruck. The pickup truck that everyone has been waiting for from the electric vehicle frontrunners is set to be released this year, according to Tesla owner Elon Musk.

Its “Mad Max” exterior has had everyone’s attention since its concept was released in 2019. It is priced at $39,000 for the basic model and $69,000 for a high-performance tri-motor model. The high-performance model is rumored to be capable of going from 0-60mph in less than 3 seconds. It can haul up to 14,000 pounds, more than any other electric pickup on the market.

It seems like the pickup truck market for gas-powered and electric versions will be as exciting this year. If you are in the market for a new truck, you will have a range of options to choose from.
