This seems contradictory to the sleek touch screens we’ve all gotten used to as of late. An actual button coming out of the side of a watch—seems a bit, well, old school, yeah? Those of us at a certain, ahem, age reminisce about the buttons that used to be on our cell phones because you could text your friends without seeing the screen. This is called “multi-tap” and users at the time became legit pros at texting, say, under a table while in science class. It appears that the Apple Watch Pro designers remember this time fondly.
In those days, a number corresponded with a letter, and you just tapped your way to the desired letter. Now, you have to look at the keyboard because raised buttons seem to have died. The Apple Watch Pro, however, is hinting at taking a cue from the past.
According to a recent article, users like athletes and outdoor adventurers are missing their “big grabby buttons.” They need them when competing or in the middle of something when they cannot pull their phone out and look at their watch. True Apple fans likely have owned an Apple watch since its launch in 2015. They’ve enjoyed seven years of having everything available on their wrist, but it seems that sometimes, the old design is the best design. Or at least parts of it.
