Elon Musk is world-renowned for pioneering the electric-car market. But his company, Tesla, is not the only brand with state-of-the-art electric vehicles. Nissan’s Leaf vehicle has been taking the auto industry by storm, though underselling Musk’s Tesla Model 3. Even though it’s not the world’s most popular electric vehicle, sales have slowly climbed for this mighty car.

The Nissan Leaf was expected to sell 1.5 million cars per year by 2016, which was a figure it did not quite achieve. This could’ve been for a couple of different reasons. The Nissan Leaf is a hatchback car, which has tended to be unpopular in American markets. Though hatchbacks that gain immense sales in the US typically have an expansive view of the road, the Nissan Leaf’s more conservative window access might’ve hindered its sales. Another has to do with Elon Musk’s complete domination of the US electric vehicle market, though many car companies are starting to compete with newer, more efficient models.

Now, Nissan is ready to release a fully revamped electric vehicle. The electric car is called the Nissan Arya and will start distribution in late 2022. The Arya is relatively similar to the size of the Nissan Rogue, which is the company’s best-selling vehicle. But the interior of the car is more spacious and open, comparable to Nissan’s bigger Murano model. Take a look below.

The Nissan Arya will have a standard, electric-vehicle battery with 87 kWh. For an electric vehicle of this size, the wattage should allow the car to drive 250-300 miles, depending on wheel size and trim level. The AC motor will be able to generate 238 hp and 221 lb-ft. With better mileage and increased power, the Nissan Arya is gearing up to be a more successful electric vehicle for the automotive distributor.

The battery pack for the Nissan Arya will be able to charge similarly to other electric vehicles. It’s extremely fast charging, inputting 7.2 kW when receiving AC electricity. The makers of the Arya commented that the charging situation would be more conducive, allowing for rapid charging without any dips in acceleration. For many EVs, charging will quickly start but tend to dip further along in its charging process. According to Nissan, the battery is constructed to help the battery charge at around 130 kW for the entire duration.

Reporters from Ars Technica were able to test out a prototype since the Nissan Arya won’t be at dealerships until fall 2022. According to the website, the Arya has adequate visibility from the windshield, large 12-inch screens near the dashboard, and is pretty comfortable. The EV has a ton of extraordinary technological innovations, like voice recognition, Alexa integration, and even an artificial personal assistant.

One of the most significant advantages of Nissan’s electric vehicles is that they’re the cheapest electric vehicles on the market. At around $27,000, the Nissan Leaf is the most affordable electric car for the average household, comparable to a standard, new vehicle. Though the price for Nissan’s first EV is low, the company has yet to release how expensive the upcoming Arya will be.
