Popular candy company, Strauss Israel, which widely distributes its products nationwide, has issued an urgent recall. The candy recall affects a large number of the company’s products, with the entire recall list totaling over 100 different items. The urgent recall is due to the fact that Strauss Israel believes the products may have been contaminated with Salmonella

The Food And Drug Administration issued an announcement detailing the specifics of the candy recall. The recall affects all Strauss Israel products under its Elite-Branding label. The potentially affected products include Elite Chocolate, Cakes, Wafers, Energy Grain Snacks, Energy Chocolate Rice Cakes, Chewing Gum, and Toffee Candies. The wide girth of afflicted products could have potentially been sold in any US state. However, the company believes that a large portion of possibly contaminated products were distributed to stores located in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, and Florida.

Large quantities of the affected items were also sold through various online merchants including Amazon, Fresh Direct, and Passover.com. Thus the company believes the potentially contaminated products in the candy recall likely ended up at many smaller establishments scattered throughout the United States. In particular, smaller establishments that vend a large portion of Kosher products. The company is recommending that any store across the United States that sells any Israel Strauss products should be particularly astute in double-checking whether or not they carry any of the products outlined in the recall. It remains unclear how exactly the products in Strauss Israel’s candy recall may have become contaminated. However, the company attributes the possible reason to their liquid chocolate, which is an ingredient used in most of the potentially affected products. The liquid chocolate is thought to have been manufactured in a facility where salmonella was later detected.

Should you find that you purchased any of the affected candy recall products both Israel Strauss and the FDA are instructing individuals to immediately dispose of or return the products to the retailer where they purchased them. Those with lingering concerns or questions pertaining to the candy recall should contact Israel Strauss. Individuals can do so via e-mail. The company is also pointing worried patrons to their website and Facebook.

Potentially affected products under no circumstances should be consumed. In the event of potential consumption, individuals should look for signs of illness typically seen in salmonella infections. Individuals who become infected with Salmonella usually experience fever, body aches, pain in the abdomen, diarrhea (sometimes severe), nausea, and vomiting. If these symptoms do not subside or worsen, individuals should seek medical help. Salmonella infections are particularly dangerous for very young or elderly individuals and for those with compromised immune systems. People in these vulnerable populations should seek a doctor’s aid immediately following the onset of any symptoms.

News of Israel Strauss’ candy recall comes alongside various other recent recalls to sweep the nation. Including one issued by Coca-Cola that affected numerous of their canned beverages. Some are attributing the uptick in recalls to the sustaining labor shortages and supply chain stalwarts that continue to plague the global economy and hinder product manufacturing and delivery efficiency.
