National Pumpkin day is October 26th. It is a day to honor and celebrate a beloved fall staple, the pumpkin. The pumpkin has many uses from decoration, arts and crafts, and even being a tasty food.

The holiday, National Pumpkin Day, is celebrated in the United States every year and is a day to recognize and honor the magical gourd most people know as a pumpkin. The pumpkin has many uses and is a staple of the season and a symbol for another upcoming holiday, Halloween. Although this is an American holiday, it can be celebrated by anyone around the world who wishes to partake in the fun and festive holiday.

There are lots of ways to celebrate National Pumpkin Day for anyone who wishes to. Any time during the fall season, but especially on National Pumpkin day, is a great time to carve pumpkins. Carving a pumpkin is simple and fun for the whole family.

When picking a pumpkin to carve in celebration of National Pumpkin day, make sure it’s a good size, big but not too big. Traditionally, you start by carving a hole in the top of the pumpkin but a good trick is actually to carve the hole in the bottom of the pumpkin. Carving the hole on the bottom of the pumpkin makes it easier to light a candle and simply set the pumpkin on top of the candle, rather than coming in from the top and trying to keep the top in place once you set it back on.

Once the hole has been carved, you can clean out the insides of the pumpkin. Be sure to save the seeds because they can be cleaned up and baked in the oven, making for a tasty snack and another great way to celebrate National Pumpkin Day. Next in the pumpkin carving process, carve the face or design of the pumpkin.

When carving the face, you can freehand it or sketch the design on the pumpkin and then carve it. Once your pumpkin for National Pumpkin Day is carved and ready to go, sprinkle some cinnamon inside of it to evoke the scents of fall, get your candle ready and decide where the pumpkin will go. Light the candle and set the pumpkin on top and sit back and admire the beautiful work of art you have just created.

National Pumpkin Day can be celebrated in so many other ways as well. If you don’t want to carve a pumpkin, you can always decorate it with paint or anything else you have on hand like glitter, feathers, googly eyes, and more. Decorating a pumpkin could be a great alternative for the younger members of the family who may not be old enough to safely handle a carving tool.

Cooking and trying new recipes is another fantastic way to honor and partake in National Pumpkin Day festivities. The pumpkin is a very versatile fruit that can be used in a variety of dishes. Some of the dishes you can try to make include, but are not limited to, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin muffins.

Visiting a pumpkin patch, putting up fall decorations, and making pumpkin artwork are also other fun options to celebrate National Pumpkin Day. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate this holiday, make it your own and have as much fun as possible. If you haven’t celebrated this holiday before, now is a great time to begin a new tradition with the people you love.
